Description

The CD4001 is an integrated circuit (IC) that belongs to the CMOS 4000 series family. Specifically, it is a quad 2-input NOR gate IC. Each CD4001 IC contains four independent 2-input NOR gates within a single package. NOR gates are fundamental building blocks in digital logic design. They produce an output signal that is true (high) only when neither of the two input signals is true (high). In other words, the output is low when at least one of the inputs is high.

Features:

  • Quad 2-Input NOR Gates: The CD4001 houses four independent 2-input NOR gates within a single package, offering flexibility in logical operations.
  • CMOS Technology: Built using complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology, it strikes a balance between low power consumption and high-speed operation.
  • Wide Operating Voltage Range: This IC typically operates in the voltage range of 3V to 18V, making it compatible with a variety of voltage levels commonly used in digital circuits.
  • High Noise Immunity: It provides excellent noise immunity, reducing the likelihood of false logic states.
  • TTL Compatibility: The CD4001 is TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) compatible, allowing seamless integration into both CMOS and TTL logic systems.
  • Compact Dual-In-Line Package (DIP): The IC is conveniently packaged in a DIP format, simplifying its insertion into breadboards or PCBs.
  • Low Power Consumption: Designed for low power operation, it is suitable for battery-powered devices and energy-efficient applications.

Specifications:

  • Supply Voltage (VDD): Typically 3V to 18V
  • Number of NOR Gates: 4 (Quad)
  • Input Voltage High (VIH): 70% of VDD minimum
  • Input Voltage Low (VIL): 30% of VDD maximum
  • Propagation Delay: Approximately 75ns (at VDD = 10V)
  • Operating Temperature Range: -55°C to 125°C
  • Package Type: Dual-In-Line Package (DIP) or Surface Mount (SOIC)
